Home / Mojave Preserve and Desert bikepacking trips / 2000: Mojave National Preserve Bicycle Camping Trip #2 / Day 10: A rest day at Mitchell Caverns (Providence Mountains State Recreation Area) 11
Despite the high winds, I like it up here perched on a ledge at 4300 feet above the desert below. I decide to stay here an extra day, take the tour of the Mitchell Caverns caves, and explore the area a little. No bicycling today.

Late morning at my campsite at Providence Mountains State Recreation Area
Excellent views eastward from the ledge on which the campground sits
Northeast from Providence Mountains Campground, one gets a view of Wild Horse Mesa
After taking the tour of the Mitchell Caverns, I go for a walk up the hill behind the Park office
Cholla cactus
I've bought another box of fire wood from the Park office to have a campfire tonight
A view of the Mitchell Caverns campground from a bit higher up shows how it's little more than a small, scenic parking lot
Concrete attached to the inside of a garbage can lid at the campground
I go for another short walk on one of the trails at Mitchell Caverns
More cholla cactus
The wind is picking up and I think it's going to be another noisy night in the tent with the tent walls flapping hard
